I finished reading my wife’s book today. I found it to be very well written, and very compelling and saddening all at the same time. It is saddening to me to know that sex-based offenses still happen in the world’s most professional organization and leaders at all levels do not do what is necessary to end it and prevent it from ever happening.
She provides great detail in identifying the problem and a path forward for the organization, and they are either unable or unwilling to move in that direction. I say this as a 38-year Army combat Veteran who for 7 years of his career was a First Sergeant. When I enlisted the motto was ‘Be all you can be.” Anything that is contrary to that should be eradicated from the top down.
I salute my wife for her passion and conviction to see this vision for the military. We; men and women take the same oath and fully understand that it may mean the ultimate sacrifice. That should never be taken lightly.
Phillip R. Sumner Jr. Master Sergeant (Ret), Vermont Army National Guard
